June 11: Jazz Evening featuring The Moda Trio

The Vauxhall Griffin plays host once again to a popular and very successful jazz performance by The Moda Trio

Moda Trio formed in 2006 first as a duo, when Joshan Mahmud (Piano) met Sylvain Menaux (Double Bass) and began jamming on a regular basis, building up a classic jazz repertoire including Bill Evans and Miles Davis. However the duo soon found a common ground far from the traditional, utilising Sylvain's extensive jazz grounding and Joshan's ad hoc piano playing, creating a unique sound.

Josh and Sylvain experimented with many musicians and styles throughout 2007 and in early 2008 met Paul Blakemore (Drums) whose experience with many different styles of rock, jazz and funk gave Moda the rhythmic edge they needed to begin creating a solid set of pieces falling somewhere between jazz, trip-hop, rock and pop.

The newly formed trio confined themselves to The Society Of Unimaginable Noises Studio in Bermondsey for extensive rehearsals and shortly named themselves Moda Trio. Since then they have built up a repertoire of jazz standards, contemporary compositions both acoustic & electronic, and have created a unique sound unlike conventional jazz.

Moda Trio has now completed their latest EP, JOY-F and will be making many appearances around London throughout 2009.
